Liam Payne and Maya Henry split after 10-month engagement

It's official: former One Directioner Liam Payne is single. Not that he's proud of it.

In the Monday episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast, the 27-year-old singer revealed that he and model Maya Henry, 21, have split after ending their 10-month engagement.

“I am indeed [single],” he said. “I feel like more than anything at this point, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people. That annoys me. I’ve just not been very good at relationships."

He added, "And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point," explaining that he tends to show a "perfect" side of himself in the early stages of dating that isn't quite him, and also "bends" to his partner's interests, rather than giving his own preferences more priority. He said, “I’m just not very good at [relationships] so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else." Growth!

“I just wasn’t giving a very good version of me anymore, that I didn’t appreciate and I didn’t like being. I can honestly say I feel better out of it,” he said. “I didn’t feel good doing what I did but it had to happen. I know that's the corniest way of saying that it was the best for us both, but it just feels like that. I know I was a problem, I need to sort myself out. It's got me more concentrated and I hope she's happy.”

While that sounds very "it's not you, it's me," Henry has yet to comment on the break-up.

Payne also revealed on the podcast that he is one-month sober, and has taken up therapy after resisting it for some time.

He announced his engagement to Henry back in August 2020 after two years of dating. Payne's engagement ring of choice sparked a lot of chatter at the time, with it estimated to be over $4 million.

The pair first began dating in August 2018, just after Payne ended his high-profile relationship with singer and former X-Factor judge Cheryl Cole, 37, but didn't confirm their relationship until the following September.

Payne, meanwhile, shares a three-year-old son named Bear with Cole.
