No, this isn’t an episode of Gossip Girl, but yes, Miley Cyrus was spotted wearing Lil Nas X’s controversial “Satan Shoes.” The shoes were on sale yesterday and sold out in under one whole minute. This has us wondering how fast shipping was because *checks calendar* outstanding!
The 28-year-old singer, whose father Billy Ray Cyrus partnered with Lil Nas X for "Old Town Road" remix, was one of the 666 people who get their hands on the limited “Satan Shoes." She posted a bunch of photos of herself on Instagram wearing the sneakers that contain a drop of real human blood in the sole from members of the Brooklyn art collective MSCHF team.
The sneakers are modified Nike Air Max 97s, and they are decorated with reference to Luke 10:18, a Bible verse about Satan’s fall from heaven. They also include a pentagram pendant and they are priced at $1,018.
The “Angels Like You” singer posed on a vintage blue Land Rover in a muscle tank, baseball cap, wide-leg jeans and her “Satan Shoes.” She captioned the post, “Can you see Satan?” with a devil emoji.
Many of Cyrus’s followers commented on her post, criticizing the singer for wearing the shoes. “This ain’t it. This is messed up,” one Instagram user wrote. “Bye Miley,” another person wrote.
“So sad. Unfollowing,” another Cyrus follower added. “Dang I love you, but no,” another user wrote.
The comments didn't even phase Cyrus because she posted a video of herself jamming out with her band and she was still rocking the “Satan Shoes.”
Lil Nas X's shoes drew criticism and outrage over the last few days. Many people criticized Nike for working with Lil Nas X on a shoe that contained actual human blood but Nike was quick to release a statement.
Nike distanced itself from the "Satan Shoes" and said that they never approved of the design or collaboration. "We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF," the company said. "Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them."
Nike has filed a federal trademark infringement lawsuit against MSCHF after many people believed it was involved with the shoes. Lil Nas X was not named as a defendant in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit argues that Nike must maintain control over its brand "by setting the record straight" about what products feature its "swoosh" logo.
"In fact, there is already evidence of significant confusion and dilution occurring in the marketplace, including calls to boycott Nike in response to the launch of MSCHF's Satan Shoes based on the mistaken belief that Nike has authorized or approved this product," the lawsuit reads.
The lawsuit cites a tweet by popular shoe influencer @Saint from last Friday, which teased the upcoming release of the shoes and helped spread the word about the shoes over the weekend on social media.
Although he wasn't named in the lawsuit, Lil Nas X still had jokes about the new lawsuit against MSCHF for the "Satan Shoes."
He also reminded his followers that he has one pair of the "Satan Shoes" left. "If u want the 666th pair of the satan shoes quote this tweet and use #satanshoes to be entered and I'll pick someone by Thursday," he tweeted.
Like we said before, the devil works hard but Lil Nas X (and social media) works harder.
