Calvin Klein has just dropped its latest spring ad campaign and it looks like Hot Girl Summer has just become Hot Girl Spring because front and centre is “Body” and “WAP” rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Dubbed "Blank Canvas," the campaign features classic items from the ‘90s underwear fashion brand, and they look incredible on her and some of her campaign co-stars, like Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, Hamilton’s Anthony Ramos, futurist/activist Janaya Future Khan, musician Koffee, singer/songwriter Rina Sawayama, musician/skateboarder Sage Elsesser, and dancer Vinson Fraley.
It turns out that being a Calvin Klein model has been high on the bucket list for Megan, and she’s stoked at how her dreams have come full circle. “When I grew up, I was like, 'One day, I want to [model for Calvin Klein] — I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but I want to do it,'” she told Vogue about the campaign.
“In high school, I would definitely wear my pants a little low sometimes,” she continued, “so that people could see my Calvin Klein underwear. And to be a part of it now as Megan Thee Stallion, I'm like, 'wow, things really come full circle.'”
“I told myself, 'I'mma be on a Calvin Klein billboard' and that actually happened. I'm so grateful."
This campaign comes just in time for her new collab with Maroon 5 called “Beautiful Mistakes” which just dropped today.
Megan doesn’t just pose for the "Blank Canvas" photographs (shot by iconic fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti), she also features in a short film made to accompany the campaign, directed by Terence Nance.
Also featuring Elordi, Ramos, and others, they speak the same script, beginning with Megan: “I’ve been meaning to ask you, what makes you most vulnerable? Where’s that deep joy?” as ethereal music plays in the background.
The black and white short film shows bodies in motion, close-ups on the performers’ emotional faces, and the flow of it all feels very seductive, striking, and compelling. It has all the hallmarks of a classic ‘90s Calvin Klein commercial; Marky Mark and Kate Moss would be proud.
It's already been a big year for Megan and we have to assume it's only going to get hotter. She's been nominated for four Grammy’s this year, including Best Rap Song and Best New Artist, and “Body” hit no.1 on Billboard’s radio charts in February.
