If you're one of those types who loves to rave about how they could totally paint that super obscure, abstract piece hanging in whatever distinguished metropolitan museum (*raises hand*), it was likely a bit of a blow when Kim Kardashian shared a complex landscape painted by seven-year-old daughter North West to her Instagram this week. Because no, that is not something just anyone could totally paint.
Which is exactly why it had the internet up in arms, as it often is when Kardashian so much as breathes.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star posted the photo to her Instagram story earlier this week, calling North her "little artist." (Someone check on Kanye.)
The piece is undeniably impressive and lush, with a very proud North holding it up for display.
But social media refused to accept the possibility that a mere seven-year-old could be capable of Bob Ross-levels of art. In fact, Ross began trending on Twitter for this very reason. Go Bob!
One Twitter user wrote, "i'm supposed to go but i can't stop thinking about how north west did not paint this."
Kardashian reposted that tweet on a later story on Tuesday evening, blocking out the user's name and offering a passionate disclaimer.
The mom of four wrote, sparing no caps, "DON'T PLAY WITH ME WHEN IT COMES TO MY CHILDREN!!! My daughter and her best friend have been taking a serious oil painting class where their talents and creativity are being encouraged and nurtured."
She continued, "North worked incredibly hard on her painting which took several weeks to complete. As a proud mom, I wanted to share her work with everyone. I'm seeing op-ed pieces in the media from grown adults breaking down whether or not my child actually painted this! How dare you see children doing awesome things and then try to accuse them of NOT being awesome!?!?! Please stop embarrassing yourselves with the negativity and allow every child to be GREAT!!! NORTH WEST PAINTED THAT PERDIOTDDDDDABCDEFGZFDT!!!!!!!!"
Amen to all of that.
Offering up more evidence, Kardashian also posted the same painting done by North's friend, writing, "They go to the same art class!!! Shout out to all the proud moms out there that love to show their baby's masterpieces."
She also shared artwork done by a young Kanye, the father of North and her other three children, which included even more complex and intricate pieces.
"Throwback to some of her dad's artwork that he did when he was a kid," she captioned the post.
Family friend Tracy Romulus, the mother of North's bestie Ryan who also made a similar painting months before, backed up her friend, writing in her own Instagram story that the girls are learning oil painting techniques from an art instructor.
"They spend weeks at a time on a single painting and are incredibly proud of themselves once they complete a project," Romulus wrote. "They are following a curriculum but the works are original, starting from a blank canvas and each child's interpretation."
Finally, to ward off any other possible naysayers, there comes another party to provide cold hard receipts.
Before Kardashian went on her posting spree on Tuesday, TikTok user @camrynfred published a video saying she is the daughter of North's art teacher, and that the infamous painting that has left so many in such a tizzy is one of her mother's go-to templates for all of her young students. She, herself, did the same painting at age seven.
"My mom taught me how to paint this, and she taught North how to paint the same one just two weeks ago," she said. "She's been an art teacher for 30 years, and everyone that comes to her art classes goes through this exact same painting when they're starting out."
Case! Closed! Now leave artiste North West alone.
