In a lawsuit filed in December by Shia LaBeouf’s ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs, the English singer alleges that the actor was physically and emotionally abusive throughout their relationship. As a result of the allegations, LaBeouf has now parted ways with his management company and entered a treatment facility.

Variety has exclusively revealed that LaBeouf decided to take a break from acting and is not working with talent agency CAA at this time. According to a source, LaBeouf has been in treatment for the past five weeks and is currently living in an inpatient facility.

On December 10, The New York Times shared excepts from FKA Twigs’ lawsuit, which alleges that LaBeouf put the English musician in danger several times throughout their relationship both in private and when the couple were in public. FKA Twigs alleges that LaBeouf once woke her up by choking her and another time slammed her against his car in a gas station parking lot while onlookers declined to step in and help her. The singer, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, also alleges that LaBeouf knowingly gave her an STD and left her with PTSD.

“What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” FKA Twigs told The Times. “I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.”

In FKA Twig’s lawsuit, the singer also references LaBeouf’s ex-girlfriend Karolyn Pho, who alleges that LaBeouf once headbutted her so violently he drew blood.

According to Variety, FKA Twigs and Pho’s lawyer Bryan Freedman told the publication that the women had agreed to deal with the allegations privately if LaBeouf made a donation to a domestic violence shelter and “on the condition that Mr. LaBeouf agree to receive meaningful and consistent psychological treatment.” Freedman said that LaBeouf’s refusal to receive treatment forced the women to move forward with the lawsuit in an effort to “prevent others from unknowingly suffering similar abuse by him.”

In December, Sia tweeted her support for FKA Twigs and his other victims, claiming that she had been conned into an adulterous relationship by LaBeouf, whom she called a "pathological liar."

LaBeouf’s struggles with alcohol and drugs have been well-documented. In 2008, he received a DUI in California and in 2014, LaBeouf was escorted out of a Broadway theatre for yelling obscenities during the play. LaBeouf agreed to alcohol abuse treatment following the incident.

In 2015 and 2017, LaBeouf was arrested for public intoxication. The second arrest, which took place while he was filming The Peanut Butter Falcon and included the actor yelling racist obscenities at the arresting officer, led to a 10-week court ordered stay in rehab. It was during this time that LaBeouf was diagnosed with PTSD as a result of a violent incident from his childhood.

Most recently, LaBeouf was fired from Olivia Wilde’s period drama Don’t Worry Darling. According to a source close to the set, LaBeouf “displayed poor behaviour and his style clashed with the cast and crew.”

Following the filing of FKA Twig’s lawsuit, LaBeouf, who met the singer on the set of his autobiographical film Honey Boy, released a statement via an email to The Times. “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behaviour made them feel,” said LaBeouf. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
