Can you tell we’re wearing underwear? Because we are very excited about the latest reunion between 13 Going On 30 stars Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, who we prefer to call Jenna Rink and Matt Flamhaff,  but understand that it’s probably a little weird for them. Jenna and Matt, sorry, Jennifer and Mark, reunited earlier this week and shared a picture of two of our favorite fictional besties hanging out in Canada. This is exactly how we picture them in 2021!

Ruffalo shared a snap of the old friends on Instagram, captioning the image of the pair smiling with a sweet nod to their beloved rom-com. “Reconnecting with an old pal,” wrote Ruffalo. “Anyone know where we can get Razzles in Canada?” Garner shared the same photo on her Instagram account as well, giving us more Jenna-goodness with the caption “Wishing dust worked! And I got a perfect day with my old pal.”

The fan favourite film centered on Garner’s Jenna Rink, who after being humiliated at her 13th birthday wished she was 30 and woke up the following day 17 years in the future as a full-grown woman with, yes, boobs. Her childhood best friends Lucy (Judy Greer) and Matt (Ruffalo) had also aged and Jenna quickly found out that she has gotten mostly what she wanted in her adult life but at the cost of being a good person. Garner was 31 when the movie came out in 2004, by Hollywood standards making her on the older side to play someone who was 30 and just about right for playing a 13-year-old (kidding, young Jenna was played by Christa B. Allen).

The film went on to receive nominations for the MTV Movie Awards and Teen Choice Awards and earned an impressive $96 million at the box office. But of course, the biggest takeaway is that Jenna and Matty are still friends.

The A-listers’ latest photo shows them cheek to cheek without masks on, which means they’ve either moved in together, are shooting a film together, or have decided to ignore the pandemic. Both Garner (and bonus Greer) and Ruffalo have been outspoken about the need to wear masks, so we’re going with option B.

The Canada location Ruffalo mentions in his post is likely Vancouver, where the new Shawn Levy film The Adam Project is being shot. The movie, which also has a time-traveling main character, stars Ryan Reynolds as a man who travels back in time to visit his 13-year-old self in an effort to complete a mission. Reynolds’ character visits his late father, played by Ruffalo, who helps both his young and fully grown son on their quest. Garner plays Reynolds’ mother and Ruffalo’s Avengers costar Zoe Saldana plays Reynolds' wife.

Reynolds and Ruffalo have been sharing a handful of pictures from the Vancouver set since filming began in November. On January 30, Reynolds posted shots from a scene that included a car accident, joking about Ruffalo’s gig as The Hulk. “I have a friend from work too. But no matter how angry I make him, he stays the same size,” wrote Reynolds. Ruffalo responded with a call out to Garner, commenting “Your mother (@jennifer.garner) is going to be very upset about her Subaru.”

On January 4, Reynolds also shared a video of himself along with actor Walker Scobell, who will play the younger version of Reynolds in The Adam Project. The one-minute video shows off some of Scobell’s memorization skills and acts as a reminder to parents of why their child may still be a little too young to watch Deadpool movies.

Catherine Keener and Canadian actor Alex Mallari Jr. are also set to star in The Adam Project, which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2022. The new film is not only a reunion for Garner and Ruffalo, but also for Reynolds and Levy, who worked together on Free Guy. The Adam Project is being made under The Group Effort Initiative, an organization created by Reynolds' production company Maximum Effort and his wife Blake Lively’s production company Be for Effort. The initiative was founded to create career opportunities for Black, Indigenous, people of colour, or people from marginalized and excluded communities who have been systemically shut out from the film industry.
