Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy have finally reached a divorce agreement

Mary-Kate Olsen and her estranged husband Olivier Sarkozy have finally reached a settlement in their divorce. Olsen filed for an emergency order to file for divorce from the half-brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy in May, and now the former couple is preparing to finalize it.
The pair came face-to-face (kind of) on Zoom for their virtual hearing on Wednesday, and Us Weekly shared the details of the hearing. The outlet reports that Olsen struggled to get her video working, and she apologized to New York Judge Lori Sattler when she joined the Zoom call 10 minutes into the hearing. A very relatable 2021 scenario.
After the 34-year-old actress joined the hearing with Sarkozy, 51, and their lawyers, her estranged husband’s lawyer Michael Mosberg confirmed to the judge that the pair have come to a final agreement on the divorce. “So, we have reached a final agreement,” Mosberg said to the judge. “And we appreciate the time and latitude that you’ve given us. … It’s been incremental, but we continue to make forward progress. We, as of this morning, reached the final agreement. We just need to revise that agreement, get it executed and get it to you, which we will have by the end of next week, but … the deal is now done.”
Olsen’s lawyer, Nancy Chemtob, added: “We’ve been working very hard, and we appreciate the court’s time and the adjournments, and we do have a settlement, and we will be able to get that signed and executed, as Mr. Mosberg said, by next week. All issues are resolved.”
During the hearing, the judge asked Olsen and Sarkozy’s lawyers if there were “any issues” that needed to be discussed, and both sides said no. “I am going to keep control of the case, so we make sure that this gets done, and we get them divorced,” Sattler added.

After the lawyers agreed to submit the settlement agreement ASAP, Sattler set a “just in case” hearing date for January 25. “So, everyone is clear that if we get the agreement, you don’t have to see me, which as much as I enjoy seeing everyone here, I think you would all prefer to be done with this. Let’s get it done. File the papers, and let’s get them divorced,” Sattler concluded. “I think that’s the same objective for all of us.”
The Full House actress filed for divorce in New York City Supreme Court on May 25th, the day New York City courts reopened after closing amid the coronavirus pandemic. According to Internal Business Times, Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks previously announced that the electronic filing system in New York City would reopen on May 25 and accept new lawsuits and divorce filings.
Olsen signed a petition to divorce Sarkozy on April 17, but the New York courts weren’t accepting divorce filings except for emergency cases at the time. The judge ruled that the divorce wouldn’t be moving forward after deciding “it was not an essential matter.”
It was also reported that Olsen and her lawyers received an email from Sarkozy’s lawyers saying she needed to move out of their New York City apartment by May 18. Olsen asked Sarkozy to extend the deadline to May 30 because she claimed she couldn’t meet the May 18 deadline due to the stay-at-home orders in New York City. She also claimed that her estranged husband terminated her lease without telling her, and she moved to a Hamptons rental for the summer.
Olsen married Sarkozy in an intimate Manhattan ceremony in November 2015, after three years of dating. Details about the wedding ceremony itself were kept secret, other than a piece reported by Page Six stating that there were “bowls and bowls filled with cigarettes” at the ceremony and “everybody smoked all night.”
