Jonathan Van Ness is sharing his bright spot from 2020. The Queer Eye star, author, podcast host, advocate, political activist, and person who is the best at pumping up other people with his positive outlook just announced that he secretly got married this past summer. Can you believe? Yes, we definitely can.

On New Year’s Eve, Van Ness surprised fans by tweeting that he had exchanged ‘I do’s’ earlier this year. “Surprise! We got married in the backyard of a house we rented over the summer with a socially distanced judge & a photographer,” tweeted Van Ness, who also included picture of the hair stylist and his new husband from their wedding day on Instagram. “Our parents watched over FaceTime. Love my Mark & we’re so happy to share this news. Happy New Year!”

Van Ness also announced the news in his year-end recap post on Instagram, adding “I got married to my best friend & have a loving partner to continue building my life with.” We love all of this.

It appears that Van Ness and his new husband had let some friends in on their secret nuptials, with a handful of celebs congratulating the newlyweds on their marriage and giving themselves a pat on the back for keeping their secret. “Yay!! That was a hard secret to keep!! Love you Mark and Johnny,” wrote Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk. Tan France and Antoni Porowski also celebrated Van Ness’ news, as did model Tess Holliday, who wrote “Omggg yay! This is the longest I’ve kept a secret. it almost killed me hahahaha I love you and I’m so happy for you!! You deserve it all!”

Van Ness initially only shared his new husband's first name and picture, but eventually confirmed his husband is Mark Peacock, whom some eagle-eyed fans spotted Van Ness with back in 2019.

On January 3, Van Ness shared the sweet story of how he fell in love with Peacock. The pair went on their first date in London and continued dating while Van Ness was on his comedy tour. “At the end of that time I was taking my mom, aunt & friends on a mini break to Amsterdam. I wanted @marklondon to come with but, was it a bit intense to ask Mark to come after a couple weeks worth’s of dates to come meet my mom & and friends on a mini break,” wrote Van Ness. “Maybe so, but something about Mark felt different and I’m quite sure he felt the same.” The Queer Eye star included several photos of the happy couple together in his post, including one taken from Elton John’s Oscar’s after party this past January. “Here’s some of my favorite moments together and here’s to making many more. Thanks so much for your support and love for us!! Love y’all!!” Figure skater Adam Rippon, The Good Place actor Darcy Carden, and celeb stylist Brad Goreski all left celebratory messages on Van Ness’ latest post. Canadian musician Rufus Wainwright also left a congratulatory post, writing “It is always wonderful to see two people so in love!!!”

Peacock also announced the pair’s wedding in his own 2020 recap post, confirming that he left his native London to move to the U.S. with Van Ness. “2020 brought so much pain and sorrow for folks that’s in so many ways heartbreaking to see but I sure do hope some of the love I’ve found this year can make its way into the world in 2021, 2020 might almost be over but it sure won’t be be forgotten,” wrote Peacock. “2021, I’m ready for you.”
