According to an exclusive source to Us Weekly, Gwen Stefani and ex-husband Gavin Rossdale were “finally granted” an annulment by the Catholic Church. This request was approved by the Vatican tribunal five years after Stefani and Rossdale split up.
Stefani and Rossdale were married in 2002 and had three children together (Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6) over their 14-year marriage. Their divorce was finalized legally in 2016.
If this announcement has left you a little confused—considering 1) we thought they were divorced already and 2) how do you get an annulment if you’ve been married for 14 years and have three kids together?—you’re not alone. It seems many fans were wondering about the situation.
It seems that though Gwen and Blake Shelton were engaged this past year (with engagement rumours flying for years before that), they have been waiting for this annulment to be granted to allow the pair to marry in a church. A source also told Us Weekly that “Gwen’s religion has always been extremely important to her, and Blake is completely supportive of this.”

Stefani and her fellow The Voice co-star have been dating for the last five years. They announced their engagement in late October 2020 by sharing a photo on social media just minutes after Shelton popped the question captured by Shelton’s sister.
Their wedding plans are currently on-hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A source told Us Weekly that the couple plans to tie the knot in 2021, mentioning that Shelton had built a chapel on the Oklahoma ranch for the ceremony.
While this isn’t the first wedding for Stefani or Shelton, Shelton was married twice before to Kaynette Williams (2003-2006) and Miranda Lambert (2011–2015), they are excited to have their wedding when it is safe for their family and friends to attend.
