George and Amal Clooney still write each other love letters after 4 years of marriage

While the rest of us can’t even get a text back.

It’s official. Amal Clooney has it all. On top of being one of the most prolific human rights solicitors working today – literally changing lives, governments, and regimes – she also has a doting husband who loves to write her love letters and leave them all over their house. His name is *checks notes* George . . . Clooney? He sounds interesting, what’s his deal?

Oh wait, that George Clooney. The guy whose movies have grossed nearly $2 billion and earned him two Oscars, a BAFTA award and four Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Okay, we’re up to speed. Yup, the math checks out. Amal Clooney has it all.

In a new interview with AARP, he reveals that the couple, who have been married for four years, write each other love letters every couple months. “Even in lockdown, I'll write a letter and slip it on her desk, or she'll write a letter and leave it under the pillow. I'm a big believer in letters,” George says.

The rest of us can’t even get a text back over here.

He continues, “I have letters from Paul Newman, Walter Cronkite, Gregory Peck. I have them framed. I put them in the house. If it were a text, it would feel different. Maybe that's a generational thing, and maybe it won't be that way 20 years from now, but for me, somebody sat down and wrote it.”

The interview is loaded with interesting tidbits about how the former Hollywood playboy and forever-young prankster has eased into the end of his fifties, with his sixties looming. Of course, he wouldn’t be an “old man” if he wasn’t stuck in his ways, and yes, he’s still going on about that dang Flowbee that he’s kept for 25 years.

In the interview, he insists it’s the only thing he’ll let touch his hair, and that he’s already worn out the vacuum attachment. “My wife won't let me Flowbee my son's hair. So I have to cut it with scissors,” he tells to no one’s surprise.

He also gets a bit philosophical when reflecting on that infamous scooter accident he was involved in back in 2018 in Sardinia. The CCTV footage of the crash is actually quite shocking, and George processed that moment, realizing that bystanders were more interested in snapping his picture than phoning for help.

"I'm not a cynical guy, but I will always, always remember that moment, because nobody was jumping to go call for help or coming to help,” he tells the outlet. “For them the worst moment of my life was entertainment.”

His friend and business partner Grant Heslov was in the scooter ahead of him, and echoed George’s sentiments. “I heard that sound. That sound of metal on metal. I skidded my bike and dropped it, and he was prone on the ground. All I could think of was, Oh my God, is he dead? Then people were taking pictures. It made me angry."

“People are getting killed because they're taking a shot of a car crash coming toward them,” George continued. “We're living in this world where everybody is trying to make themselves fascinating or important or something. When the reality is: Put that phone down."

Despite all of that, and his global success, he is still at heart a funny, practical guy. When asked why he and Amal chose to name their twins Ella and Alexander (when other celebs have gone a bit esoteric with names like Apple and, uh, Jermajesty), George simply deadpans, “I didn't want, like, weird-ass names for our kids.”
