Kylie Jenner recently announced that her skincare brand, Kylie Skin, is launching a $7 hand sanitizer. Even though many beauty brands have diversified their products to offer sanitizers and other disinfecting and hygiene-related products during COVID-19, people have accused Jenner of profiting over the pandemic with this recent product launch.
On January 6, Kylie Jenner announced a hand sanitizer would be the latest offering from Kylie Skin. Made up of 80 per cent alcohol (the FDA recommends at least 60 per cent alcohol), the sanitizer is meant to be moisturizing as well as disinfecting.
The announcement came directly from Jenner’s social media accounts.
Even the Kardashian momager, Kris Jenner, celebrated the launch on social media.
However, not everyone online was supportive of the launch. Jenner, who's worth just under $900 million, was suggested to be profiting over the pandemic and the increased demand for hand sanitizers.

Others commented that Jenner’s hand sanitizer costs more than other brands. The $7 for two fluid ounces is quite the markup when compared to Purell’s Advanced Hand Sanitizer Refreshing Gel that retails in the U.S. for $2.99.
Despite the criticisms that Jenner has received, the reality star has donated more than 6,000 pounds of hand sanitizer to hospitals in Southern California in April and $1 million USD to COVID-19 relief efforts. Her fans were quick to point this out and come to her defence.
"One of my patients, a beautiful Living Angel just donated $1,000,000 to help us buy hundreds of thousands of masks, face shields, and other protective gear which we will have delivered directly to our first responders, as too many masks at hospitals are disappearing before making their way onto the faces of our front line heroes," wrote Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi regarding Jenner's donation.
Despite her philanthropic endeavours, this isn’t the first pandemic blunder that Jenner has had. In August, she received criticism after travelling to Paris. Even though she was travelling for a meeting with Coty Inc., Kylie Cosmetics’ parent company, she shared images and videos from that trip without wearing a face mask.
