The beginning of the global pandemic pushed millions around the world inside their homes and closed major industries. Deemed non-essential, barbershops and salons were forced to shut their doors, meaning that people were (and still are) literally taking matters into their own hands. If anyone can figure out how professionals can cut hair from six feet away, they’re going to be a billionaire.

Like the rest of us, celebrities are wavering between experimental, lazy and desperate when it comes to keeping up their grooming in 2020. Between the ‘hair colour’ phase of panic buying in the early pandemic and the boom of celebs finally seeing their stylists after months away, we're getting some pretty iiiinteresting looks. Check them out below.

Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart decided to ditch the dye bottle while staying home during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. In one of his Instagram videos, dubbed "Confessions from the Hart," the 41-year-old actor said that he was done colouring his natural gray hair for now. “I have always had a s—t load of grey hair…I was just a frequent dyer...I'm not working right now so I said F--K IT," he captioned one of his posts.

Riz Ahmed

Sound of Metal actor Riz Ahmed showed off his #StayHome haircut in March. "Anyone else do a #StayHome haircut that got outta hand? Least now it feels like there's someone else here when I look in the mirror," he wrote in his caption. Not bad for a stay home haircut, Riz!

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande ditched her sleek, high ponytails and straight hair for a while and embraced her naturally, curly dark brown hair in a cute quarantine video. She also shared a picture on Twitter, showing off her beautiful curls and captioned it, "Get a load a dis." We are feeling the curly hair vibes, Ari!

Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes decided to shock us all when he said goodbye to his quarantine man bun. We are not OK! On February 18, the 22-year-old Canadian singer debuted his fresh cut. "Goodbye long hair!!" Mendes wrote. We miss his curly, long locks already.

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff decided to ditch her classic blonde locks from her Lizzie McGuire days and change things up with a nice blue hue. Last April, Hilary shared a selfie on Instagram, debuting her vibrant blue bob. We're tempted to head out and buy some temporary hair colour.

Demi Lovato

Not much to say here except Demi is looking fierce AF. The singer debuted the radical change on IGin November, posting multiple angles of her new cut and colour. The hair, the smoky eye, the flawless brows, the silver hoops, the popped collar, the leather jacket—we honestly can’t pick a favourite part of this look.

CAMILA CABELLO

‘I LOST MY SHORT HAIR VIRGINITY,’ Camila announced on IG in October, sharing that she’s never in her life had short hair. Since that initial post, she’s really embraced colourful scarves as a hair accessory and we gotta say we dig it.

ARIEL WINTER

Winter is coming… We wish we could take credit for the pun, but that was Ariel’s caption on a series of pics she posted to Instagram after the 4th of July weekend sporting a platinum ‘do. Putting her Modern Family dark hair behind her, Ariel had been rocking some red locks since February before making the switch to icy blonde.

MILLIE BOBBY BROWN

It seems Millie skipped straight out of quarantine and into the salon. The Stranger Things star may be known for her signature bob, but she played with some longer blonde locks in June, like she’s been known to do in the past. Bonus points for the Canadian tuxedo.

EMILY RATAJKOWSKI

Which Jenner is this? Trick question: it’s a blonde Emily Ratajkowski which you seriously might have missed if you were absentmindedly scrolling through your feed. The model showed off a-little-more-than-sunkissed locks in June, documenting the whole procedure on her IG stories.

POST MALONE

How do you keep the people on their toes once you’ve tattooed your face? Tattoo a face on to your face. Duh. Post Malone (aka Austin Richard Post) outdid every other quarantine look at the end of June when he debuted a shaved head with an incredibly intricate skull tattoo where he once had hair. You do you, Post.

DYLAN MINNETTE

Recognize this fair-haired fellow? 13 Reasons Why star Dyan Minnette joined the at-home dye trend at the end of May with this lavender hue. Or perhaps he started it? The actor/singer actually dyed his normally dark brown hair blue back in February.

DWYANE WADE

Wade debuted this fiery new look in a series of TikToks on the last weekend in May. He first teased the new ‘do with a peek at his bleached hair, then followed it up shortly after with a red reveal.

ZAYA WADE (FEAT. DWYANE)

Surprise! It’s a matching daddy-daughter look! A little while after sharing his hair transformation, Dwyane revealed that Zaya had also opted for a similar colour. Pretty darn cute.

SARAH HYLAND

Sarah joined the ‘#QuaranTINT crew’ in May when she dyed her own hair (what was supposed to be pink but ended up) red. After posting this pic on her IG feed, she took to her stories to admit the tint was supposed to be a lot lighter and caution fans against bleaching their hair in quarantine. ‘It’s temporary guys!!! Please don’t bleach your own hair at home. That scares me,’ she wrote.

TAYLOR SWIFT

Tay-Tay rocked the pastel-blue-and-pink streak look last year in the lead-up to the release of her Lover album and she broke out the dye again this May ahead of the premiere of her taped City of Lover concert. We love a good throw-back ‘do.

ARIE LUYENDYK

What we have here is your classic quarantine bleach. This is a risky move because it’s (obviously) permanent and can also cause actual damage that extends past quarantine. It is not recommended. The former Bachelor’s fellow alums were quick to get shady in the comments with Jared Haibon commenting, ‘Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?’ and Taysha Adams hitting him with ‘Hahaha stopppp!’

JIM PARSONS

Hair bleaching is probably the last thing Sheldon Cooper would willingly do, but Jim Parsons was looking to ‘jazz it up’ for husband Todd Spiewak in quarantine and thought it was a good option. He said in a SiriusXM appearance, ‘[the husband] only has one companion; now he’s sort of got one and a half companions.’

ASHLEY BENSON

Ah, to isolate on a beach. Ashley debuted lighter pink hair on Instagram at the beginning of May in a quick video, and followed it up with this more vibrant version a week later. Not only does it look cute as heck to us, it’s got the Hailey Bieber seal of approval, who commented, ‘Love you with pink hair… so good.’
