Alice Evans tweets and deletes post about split from Ioan Gruffudd

Even the most amicable of breakups can be difficult, but when the dissolution of a relationship plays out in the public eye, things can get ugly quickly. Actors Alice Evans and Ioan Gruffudd appear to be going their separate ways and announced the dissolution of their 13-year marriage in a joint statement and a series of concerning tweets from Evan’s account.
On Monday, Evans tweeted that her husband was leaving her and the couple’s two children next week. In a tweet that has since been deleted but was screen grabbed by multiple outlets, including Page Six, Evans wrote “Sad news. My beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years, Ioan Gruffudd, has announced he is to leave his family, starting next week. Me and our young daughters girls are very confused and sad. We haven’t been given a reason except that he ‘no longer loves me.' I’m so sorry.”
The tweet was deleted soon after and a second tweet appeared where Evans alleged that it was Gruffudd who removed the message. “Hi there. I didn’t delete the tweet from a few hours ago about him leaving. He did. From my account,” tweeted Evans, adding “And hell yes when I am being gaslit and mentally tortured then hell yes I will wash my linen in public.”
When a second follower commented that Evans sharing details on Twitter about Gruffudd leaving their marriage was ‘weird,’ she responded “Why? I have lost my mind.”
Evans also interacted with a fan who said they understood her need to publicly address the breakup as a way “to recognize the impossibility of a reconciliation.” Evans responded, writing “This is exactly why. And thank you. Six months of harrassment: yes/no/maybe. I cannot live anymore like this.”
People obtained a joint statement from the couple on January 26, which reads "As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for our family and we remain committed to our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy." Following Evans’ initial tweet, Gruffudd made his Twitter account private.
Gruffudd’s father Peter spoke to the Daily Mail following the couple’s announcement and said he was not surprised by news of the split. “As a family you are aware of these things going on,” said the elder Gruffudd. “I have spoken to Ioan and we are of course incredibly sad but I do not want to go into too much detail. We are very sad, particularly for our two granddaughters. It is just very sad, but these things do happen and marriages do end.”

English-born Evans has worked in film and television and is best known to North American audiences for her TV roles in series like Lost, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.
Born in Wales, Gruffudd got his big break as Officer Harold Lowe in Titanic and went on to star as Horatio Hornblower in the English series Hornblower. Gruffudd starred alongside Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon and Kerry Washington in 2005’s Fantastic Four. He recently wrapped two seasons opposite Downton Abbey actor Joanne Froggatt in Liar and is currently filming the third season of the Australian series Harrow.
