Ryan Reynolds just responded to a petition calling for a Vancouver street to be renamed after him in the most Ryan Reynolds way. It all began, we might add, in the most Vancouver way.

Vancouver radio show The Kevin and Sonia Show with Tara Jean started a humble but fun petition at the beginning of November, calling on Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart to rename a street after the Vancity superstar, “(or at least a lane)” they wrote in parentheses. Ryan, who is so vocal about being a Canadian and a Vancouverite that he even put “Vancity” in his Twitter handle, has never forgotten where he came from, and at the beginning of the pandemic he made sure everyone knew he and wife Blake Lively were quarantining there. Now, the Deadpool star has caught wind of the petition (that is only under 2000 signatures short of reaching its goal), and decided to weigh in.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Very kind but hard pass. If traffic sucks everyone will say, ‘Ryan Reynolds is a mess’ or ‘Ryan Reynolds is really backed up’.”

He closed his thoughts with, “My brothers would enjoy this too much.” Considering that one of his brothers is an RCMP officer and the other is a teacher, we can totally see them never letting their ~actor~ brother outlive this.

The petition page has been updated since the Van Wilder star gave his two cents, questioning if the signees wanted to continue the endeavor, purely for the entertainment value. “Should we keep it going, even if it's just for the hilarious puns and the reasons he listed?” they asked. We think they definitely should. After all, the reasons are fun and we're sure Ryan can handle the teasing his brothers have in store for him.

This year alone, Ryan has donated his time to bring smiles to the children at Sick Kids Toronto, he donated 30 per cent of his Aviation gin profits to out-of-work bartenders in Canada and the US,  he and Blake donated $250,000 each to Covenant House in Toronto and Vancouver, he sent parkas to 300 students in need in Nunavut, and he offered a reward that eventually led to a woman’s stolen teddy bear being returned.

Seriously, give this man more than a lane or a street – Ryan Reynolds is his own Heritage Minute.
