Jeannie Mai is on the mend. The host and stylist has shared an update with her fans on social media, assuring them that all is well just days after she underwent emergency surgery for a rare throat condition.“No speaking, no chewing, bad tshirts,” she wrote on an Instagram story on November 6, sharing a mirror-selfie from her hospital room wearing a t-shirt that says “Vote Jeannie.” For now the picture will have to say it all, because as The Real co-host noted, it might bit a little while longer before she can give people any verbal updates.Mai had emergency surgery five days ago after she learned she had a rare throat condition called epiglottitis. Basically that means the protective tissues in her throat had become inflamed, and had started blocking airflow from her lungs. Had she waited any longer, she could have died. The surgery also forced her to leave the current season of Dancing With the Stars this week. The personality addressed both things in a lengthy Instagram post following the surgery.“I would never imagine ever having to write this, but I made it safely out of my emergency surgery. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Nasseri who identified my potentially life-threatening condition,” she wrote on November 3. “What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of 3 days,” she continued.

What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of 3 days. This week it was Selling Sunset star Chrishell Strause and her pro partner Gleb Savchenko who were sent dancing off into the sunset after receiving the lowest number of votes alongside Skai Jackson and pro partner Alan Bersten. (The judges unanimously decided to save Jackson.)Meanwhile, host Tyra Banks also addressed Mai’s exit to the crowd while fighting back tears. “Jeannie, we are glad that everything went well and that you are on your way to a speedy recovery,” Banks said, as per People, after the show aired a video package in Mai's honour. “As you see, I'm emotional, we're all emotional in here. We know that this means so much to you. I remember after the show, seeing you in the hallway, and just your love and passion for this and Brandon's love and passion for this,” the host continued. “Just know you are still apart of this family 'til the final episode of this season.”Here’s wishing Mai a continued, speedy recovery.[video_embed id='2069209']Before you go: Jeannie Mai shares a health update after emergency surgery[/video_embed]
