Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have suffered a pregnancy loss. Late Wednesday night, Teigen posted an emotional message on Instagram confirming that doctors were unable to stop the severe bleeding she has endured throughout her latest pregnancy. Teigen had recently been hospitalized for complications surrounding her pregnancy, and in a candid post to her followers revealed that her bleeding could not be stopped "despite bags and bags of blood transfusions.”
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” wrote Tiegen. The model and cookbook author, who has been on bed rest for the past month, said that despite medical interventions, “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed.”
Teigen, who shares 4-year-old Luna and 2-year-old Miles with Legend, said that the couple typically don’t name their children until "the last possible moment" after they are born, but had already started calling their baby Jack.
“So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever,” wrote Teigen. “To our Jack - I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”
The couple announced their pregnancy in August with Teigen showing off her growing belly in Legend’s music video for “Wild.” Much like Teigen’s pregnancies with her son and daughter, the TV personality endured heavy bleeding for weeks as a result of a condition with her placenta. Teigen has been keeping fans updated on her son’s progress, which included revealing that she had been put on strict bed rest.
“Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers,” wrote Teigen in a post shared by Legend. “We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you.”
Teigen shared a series of black and white photos from the hospital, including a sobering image of herself and Legend holding their young son. “We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience,” wrote Teigen. “But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”
On Sunday, Teigen checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after her bleeding had increased. Teigen reassured her fans that she was feeling good and that the baby was strong but said that she was understandably nervous about the safety of her child.
“He didn’t have the strongest chance at the very beginning so all we’re doing now is trying to make sure that he’s got a lot of fluid around him and that I’m resting obviously as much as possible,” said Teigen in her Instagram Stories. “And it’s just hard because there’s not much that you can do.”
On Tuesday, Teigen again updated fans, revealing she had passed a large blood clot and doctors were having difficulty finding Jack’s heartbeat.
Just had a really scary morning ? huge clot, almost save-worthy. The scramble to hear the heartbeat seemed like hours. I never thought I’d relief sigh so much in my liiiiife

Teigen added that she had received two blood transfusions during her hospital stay in an effort to replace the blood she was losing daily.
On October 1, Teigen posted a devastating tweet that many women and couples can relate to.
Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real.

Although data on miscarriages is difficult to collect, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada estimate that 20 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage, a rate many doctors believe to be even higher.
Many of Teigen’s fans and famous friends offered their love and support in the comments section of her post, including Kim Kardashian, Gabrielle Union, Channing Tatum, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Paris Hilton and Hailey Bieber. Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Melissa Fumero thanked Teigen for her honesty, which she says will make other women who have suffered a miscarriage feel less alone.
“I am so astonished and in complete awe of your bravery. You just made so many women feel seen by sharing this intimate grief,” wrote Fumero. “I hope the outpouring of love you receive helps you and your family heal. Thank you for being so strong and so open.”
