Jackie Stallone, the mother of actor Sylvester Stallone and musician Frank Stallone, has passed away at 98 years old. Frank made the announcement on social media, revealing that his mum died in her sleep, which is how she had hoped to go.“This morning my brothers and I lost our mother Jackie Stallone. She was the mother to four children, Tommy, Sylvester, Frankie and my late sister Toni Ann,” Frank began his Instagram post. “She was a remarkable woman working out everyday full of spunk and fearless. She died in her sleep as she had wished. It was hard not to like her, she was very eccentric and flamboyant person.”
Fans got a chance to see that personality many times over the years. Not only did Jackie start her career as an aerialist with the Flying Wallendas act in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus, she was also the first woman to have a daily TV show on exercise and weight lifting,
according to USA Today. In her career she was also a promoter and manager with the real-life GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (the same one that the Netflix series is based on), a celebrity astrologer, and a surprise guest on the 2005 British edition of
Celebrity Big Brother. There, she got into it with Sylvester’s ex, Brigitte Nielsen, and was voted out by fans after four episodes.
“She was born on November 29th 1921 in Washington DC, she lived through prohibition, the depression and World War II. I would talk to her for hours about the 20's 30's and 40's. It was a history lesson. Her mind was as sharp as a razor till the day she died,” continued Frank in his post.
Although Jackie wasn’t in the spotlight as much in recent years, she remained active and stayed fit with weight training and exercise. She shared some of that journey on her Instagram account along with throwback photos and updates of her adventures as a dog mom. Her last post in July was of
an old one of Sylvester and his dog. (At time of press, Sly had not shared any updates of his mother’s passing on social media.)“I guess I'm drowning my emotions in tears and too much vino. But when you've known someone for 70 yrs it’s tough and sad,” Frank concluded. “She had seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. My brother Sylvester took care of her like a Queen for all of her life. I will never be able to call my mom again or have her yell at me why I never got married. But we all loved her and her spirit to survive and prevail. I'll miss you always mommy.”[video_embed id='5985359340001']Before you go: Sylvester Stallone wrote 'Rocky' in a surprisingly short amount of time[/video_embed]
