Just a few days after Britney Spears told her Instagram fans that she accidentally
burnt down her gym, court documents reveal that her conservatorship has been extended until August of this year. The conservatorship, which places Jodi Pais Montgomery temporarily in charge of her multi-million dollar estate and personal affairs, has been in place since 2008 after a very public breakdown.Over the years, Britney, who is now 38 years old, has said she resents being under a conservatorship, so this move is sure to annoy the ‘Toxic’ singer, as the courts are unable to hold any hearings amid the COVID-19 global pandemic.[video_embed id='1949535']RELATED: Britney Spears reveals she accidentally burned down home gym[/video_embed]According to documents obtained by
US Weekly, the conservatorship grants Montgomery, “the power to restrict and limit Britney’s visitors, retain caretakers and security guards on a 24-hour basis, communicate with Britney’s medical team and, according to court docs previously obtained by Us, also have full access to ‘any and all records’ regarding Britney’s ‘psychiatric treatment, diagnosis and testing.’”For over a decade, Britney’s conservator was her own father, Jamie Spears, but he stepped down in 2019 citing health concerns, although he had also been involved in a reported
physical altercation with Britney’s eldest son Sean Preston. That incident led to Sean's father, Kevin Federline, filing a restraining order against Jamie. An insider told US that Britney “has expressed that she doesn’t want to work again because she doesn’t want to continue to essentially keep herself under the conservatorship.” The source later added that Britney isn’t happy that her father still obtains a $10,000 monthly allowance for overseeing her finances.Britney had been performing in a long-running residency in Las Vegas, but cancelled it in January of 2019.[video_embed id='1751708']Before you go: These emotionally devastating celebrity breakups still haunt us[/video_embed]
