In his new role, Prince William will be following in the footsteps of his father, Prince Charles, as well as his great-aunt, Princess Anne, and his uncle, Prince Edward, who have all previously held the appointment of Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.Prince William’s new appointment is the first major announcement made by the royal family since the shocking exit of Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle earlier this month. After months of discussions, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s hopes that they could continue with some of their royal duties while living a more private life away from the media abuse that Markle has endured since beginning her relationship with Prince Harry were squashed. In a statement made by Buckingham Palace, Harry and Meghan’s new roles as non-royals were outlined. “As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties,” the announcement read, adding that Harry and Meghan are no longer formal representatives of the Queen, but that “the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.”Harry and Meghan, who are currently living with their son Archie in Canada, will retain their HRH titles but not use them. The couple will also pay for the improvements made last year on Frogmore Cottage, which will remain the family’s home when they’re in Canada.[video_embed id='-1']Before you go: This is what happens when you leave your window cracked during a blizzard[/video_embed]The Queen has appointed Prince William as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the @churchscotland this year.
