It’s been a busy month in that hustle and bustle of a town they call Hollywood, what with awards show after awards show. But on Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the actors gave each other some coveted hardware for all of their accomplishments over the past year at the less formal SAG Awards, and there things definitely got… colourful.

The Levys take over Hollywood

[caption id="attachment_4764630" align="alignleft" width="1024"] Getty Images[/caption]It’s always a pretty big gamble when you decide to air a live show without a host, but we’d say the night’s makeshift hosts, our own Canadian father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, were pretty damned brilliant. We love how they called out their lack of nomination, unique relationship and oodles of experience from their seats as part of the same old cold open (in which Christina Applegate and Cynthia Erivo explained their SAG histories). But then they climbed on stage to present the first award and immediately continued the gag.So what did differentiate them from actual hosts? Well according to the fam-jam real hosts actually get paid, and they also appear more than once throughout the night.Technically that kind of makes the Levys the unofficial hosts then, because although the jury’s still out on whether they got paid, they definitely reappeared to present the final award of the night too, to Parasite.

Mrs. Maisel wins… by mistake?

The night’s first three awards—for best male in a comedy, female in a comedy, and comedy ensemble—went by so quickly we almost had whiplash. But we were even more floored when, following Tony Shalhoub’s win for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s win for Fleabag, the entire cast of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won for comedy ensemble.But if we were shocked, the winning cast was in a coma. None of them knew what to say, so they threw it to Alex Borstein, who basically repeated “this is a mistake,” over and over again until she announced she was going to make sweet love to the trophy through her Spanx hole and then turned to her crew and said, “Someone else f---ing talk.”Luckily Mrs. Maisel herself, Rachel Brosnahan stepped in to diffuse the situation by thanking the Guild and the show’s casting directors, before ending with, “Thank you guys, thank you. This is a mistake, but thank you.”

Parasite cast gets standing O

When the cast came out and presented their film for consideration in Korean, everyone ate it up with a giant, standing ovation. That made it pretty clear that the flick was going to take home the best ensemble later on.

Brad Pitt’s streak continues

We thought Brad looked pretty fresh at the Golden Globe Awards two weeks ago, but even that had nothing on his stellar performance at the podium during his SAG Award win for supporting actor in Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.“I’m going to add this to my Tinder profile,” he said before launching into a speech that included a shout-out to all of his co-stars… and his female co-stars’ feet.“Quentin has separated more women from their feet than the TSA,” he joked, saying what most of us have been thinking for years about Tarantino’s weird, weird foot fetish.Then Brad took the self-deprecation to a whole new public level when he spoke about how tough it is to play the role of a guy getting high, taking his shirt off, and not getting home to his wife. Not even Jennifer Aniston could ignore that one, and we were very thankful for the cameras capturing her smiling and clapping at the jokes. Who knew that Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, an actor would actually own up to his past? And just like that Brad was in demand all over again.

And then there was Jen…

We were just as happy for Jen as we were for Brad, when she won for The Morning Show. While she had a cute nod to Adam Sandler (“Your performance is extraordinary and your magic is real!), we were also admittedly distracted by her surprisingly perky dress. Look, we hate ourselves for not being able to look away, but on the bright side it totally brought us back to the actress’ wardrobe choices of her Friends days.

Michelle was back, baby

Remember last week when Michelle Williams won the Critics’ Choice Award for her role on Fosse/Verdon and then she just didn’t show up to collect? Now we’re thinking she was maybe busy working on her SAG speech, which she totally nailed. Williams started by gushing about her co-star Sam Rockwell (who also won later on in the night), and ended by thanking her soon-to-be-hubs and baby daddy, Fosse/Verdon producer Thomas Kail.In related news, Williams’ tiny baby bump was spectacular, and it was on full display in her black dress.

We really needed to celebrate heroes

We’re into montages and all, but can we all just agree that the hero bit set up by Gwendoline Christie was… weird? It’s like SAG knows how much they rely on superhero roles these days, and so they needed to shout them out? As far as we’re concerned, the clips only reminded us just how marvellous these “heroic” roles are nowadays.

Robert De Niro got some hardware… before getting political

It’s about time that Robert De Niro got a lifetime achievement award from his peers, and the clip package that Leonardo DiCaprio set up definitely didn’t disappoint. But then De Niro did the controversial thing and got political by urging his peers to vote for people who believed in unions and then quoting himself in a recent interview he did.“There’s right and there’s wrong and there’s common sense and there’s abuse of power and as a citizen I have as much right as anybody else,” he said. “And if I have a bigger voice because of my situation I’m going to use it against what I feel is a blatant abuse of power.”We should also note that it looked as though the one and only Meryl Streep, who clearly feels the same way given all of the political speeches she’s made on those podiums over the years, looked like she was clapping the hardest of all.

Joaquin was actually to the point

At the SAG Awards he was quite sincere, and he shouted out every single one of his fellow nominees in a sweet way. He was especially nice to Leonardo DiCaprio, who always beat him out in auditions, and to Christian Bale. “Just suck once, okay?” the Joker joked before making one last shout-out to Heath Ledger in the sky.We… can’t.In other news, we’re pretty sure he and fellow winner Renée Zellweger just confirmed their wins at next month’s Oscars now that they’ve got Globes and SAGs under those sparkly outfits of theirs.Let the awards show train continue.
